Emerson "Rocks"!

Almost 300 parents and students packed classrooms for Family Science Night to learn about this year’s theme, “Planet Earth.”  Students were able to learn about earth’s geology; including rocks and minerals, plate tectonics, gravity, earth’s moon, fossils, the water cycle, and earth’s crust layers.  All the kids, and their parents, had a great time. Thanks go out to all who participated!

UCLA's "I'm Going to College" Program

A busload of Emerson 5th grade students and parents participated in UCLA's "I'm Going to College" program.  The day consisted of the students going up to the Rose Bowl grounds in Pasadena to learn about UCLA and get a few freebies. Everyone then watched the UCLA vs. University of Washington football game.  UCLA won the game, but our students were the biggest winners because they've set their goals on going to college!

PTA Website

Emerson is lucky to have a very active and involved PTA who are constantly coming up with new and exciting ways to help the school and all of its students. The PTA has so many exciting events on the horizon that they have set up their own website to help all of the Emerson families keep track and stay involved. Please visit the PTA website and catch up on all of the events they have planned. A big thank you goes out to all of the members of Emerson's awesome PTA for all their effort.

Fall Fun

In honor of Red Ribbon Week, Emerson was honored to have Long Beach Police Department Detective Fermin Gonzalez as a guest for our monthly awards assembly. Detective Gonzalez reminded all of the excited students about the importance of always staying drug-free. Later in the day, Emerson Parents, students and staff participated in the annual "Trunk Or Treat" activity. Everyone who participated dressed up in a variety of costumes and paraded around the campus which added to an already festive fall mood on a very fun day at Emerson!

A Busy Saturday

Emerson was abuzz with activity on a recent Saturday.  We had 3 events happening that day.  Our pancake breakfast was a hit!  Lots of families enjoyed themselves eating freshly made pancakes.  We also held our Emerson beautification day where parents and students helped to make Emerson sparkly clean.  And, many community members donated truck loads of e-waste to a local recycling company.

Emerson is grateful for all of our parents who volunteered to make it an awesome day!  We also thank our local businesses Alberstons, Polly's Pies, It's A Grind, and Costco for their generous donations.

Principal For A Day

Principal For A Day is an event that brings community members from the Long Beach area into schools in the role of the principal.  It is co-sponsored by the Long Beach Area Chamber of Commerce, The Long Beach Unified School District, and the Long Beach Education Foundation.

Emerson’s Principals were City of Long Beach Councilwoman Gerrie Schipske and Long Beach Police Department Sgt. Scott Minikus.  They spent the morning visiting and observing classroom instruction and, additionally, met with excited third grade students in a Q A session about their careers.

Emerson is grateful to our Principals for spending time with students and sharing a bit about themselves and their careers.
